Beethoven was Bounce's first foal by a lovely palomino stallion, imported by our friends, Sarah and Steve Dickmeyer. Bounce's foals had all been reserve in utero, but for this breeding, we did not offer her foal for advance purpchase. Since the foal would be a total outcross for our program, we planned to retain it if it was a filly, and were toying with retaining a colt, particularly if he got the dilute gene from his sire. As luck would have it, we got neither the filly we wanted nor a dun, but we were pleased nevertheless with the bay colt. Since his sire was Magic Flute, we considered naming him Gaslight Bwgi Wgi (Welsh for Boogie Woogie) Bugle Boy, but it semed more of a gelding name. After a lot of consideration, we settled on Beethoven, still in keeping with the musical theme of his sire's name.

Beethoven was sold as a weanling to Teresa Mumford, who owned his half sister, Gaslight Blossom, a bay mare sired by *Ceulan Lwcus LOM/AOE/OD. Beethoven showed successfully as a youngster, earning the WPCSA National Hi Score Section A Colt in his 2 year old season.
