Gaslight Sweet Surrender LOM
Section A Welsh Mountain Pony Gelding
Asgard Sultan of Swing x Gaslight Siwgr Baby LOM

Portrait by Jane Dunn
Nicknamed "Mr. Snurdley" shortly after he was foaled, Snurd was the first foal of our heavily Coed Coch-bred mare and by our first stallion. He was originally sold as a weanling to Michelle Swigart to be a birthday present for her daughter's seventh birthday. He was re-named Stormy by his new family and lived with them for several years. He was kept intact but never bred, living happily in Michelle's barn as the smallest stallion in a barn of Thoroughbred and Fresian giants.

When Snurdley was seven, Michelle decided to concentrate on her Fresians, so before she gave him to some local people to live happily as a pasture ornament, she offered him to us. We are extremely grateful to Michelle for making that call, which returned this wonderful little pony to Gaslight Farm, to begin his journey into Welsh history.

Snurdley had never seen or smelled a mare since he had left our farm when he was six months old. Needless to say, the trip from the trailer to his new pen, past all the mares, was a real "E" Ticket experience! He was penned near the other boys, and quickly settled down when he was back in the company of other "guys." It was a month before we could schedule his gelding, but once that was done, he settled down quickly. We sent him out to Carrie MacWhorter for his initial training under saddle, then brought him home again. A few months later, we sent him to Carla Burress, to continue training and to market him for us. Within a couple of weeks, Carla had fallen in love with him. Her husband bought him from us, as surprise a gift and project for her. Carla enjoyed working with him, taking him out for experience doing cross-country. He had a HUGE jump and was eager to please. It was obvious this was a special little pony that deserved the right home where his talents could be developed.
I received an inquiry from a family, looking for a trained pony for their daughter that would be competative in hunters. Finding well-trained ponies will always be a challenge, since these are the most in demand and sell quickly. I referred her to Carla. Snurdley was the only pony I knew of that was available at the time, though he still needed a LOT of miles before he would be a finished pony. Snurdley moved to the home of Ingrid Jackson, where her daughter Kristina would work with him and ultimately ride and show him to his LOM.

His rider having outgrown him, Snurdley was offered for sale. A special pony needs a special family, and Mr. Snurdley found just that in the home of Lisa Nielsen. He moved to WA to become the first pony for her daughter Madeleine, who has been riding him and taught him to hug her. We are so pleased that he is somewhere getting the love and use that he so deserves, and look forward to hearing updates on him inthe future. Who knows, maybe we'll see him again one day in a Welsh show in the Pacific Northwest!
